The Year End Bash is going to be a great way to celebrate all the hard work that everyone has done through out the year in the AWANA program. Awards and Recognition Ceremony 2007-2008

Sunday May 18th at 5:30pm the AWANA Club will hold it’s Annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony. We will recognize the AWANA Club members achievement and leaders dedicated service during the past year. It is important that we have as many people as possible in attendance to recognize the achievements of our AWANA students and our AWANA volunteers for their service. PLUS… That evening the AWANA store will be open one last time.

Jeff Hutchinson, the AWANA Commander, would like to thank the church members for their outstanding financial support of this great program through out the past year! Many “seeds” have been planted, and God’s Words have been hidden in many hearts this past year. We have a lot to celebrate and want you to be a part of the celebration. Plan now to attend the AWAN Awards and Recognition Ceremony May 18th at 5:30pm and show your support of this great program and our youth.

For more information about the Ceremony contact Jeff Hutchinson at 281-650-1978 or bsahutch@msn.com he will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Camping in the DCNF

September 28th, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

Well, we survived the overnight camping trip to the Davy Crockett National Forest.  We saw some sights, had some fun and ate a lot of apple and cherry pie!!  And we learned some things.  Most notably is how God expects us to be stewards of the land.

In case you are interested, some pictures from the trip are located here.

Junior Camp Day 3

July 25th, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

Well today was a water day and all the games involved water. By the end of the day the kids had taken the equivalent of 3 baths (which is always appreciated at this age).

Junior Camp Day 2

July 24th, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

Day two started off with wonderful weather that continued the whole day. The kids are having a great time, so great that their favorite part must be going to bed at night.
Bro. Don had a great message about putting on what we wear in our Christian life. He took a t-shirt with messages written in flourescant ink and turned on a black light to show the things we sometimes wear (envy, disobedience, anger, etc…) and then turned it around to reveal the things we should be wearing (love, obedience, truth, etc…).
While he was speaking Lauren Dalton turned to me and said, “I wish it was that easy to put on our Christian life”, which is so true because Satan attacks us anyway that he can.

Junior Camp Day 1

July 24th, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

Ohh what a fun day we started with! It wasn’t too hot, the lake is really full, and the service was great. The temperature has been very mild for what it should be up here which is really good for the children. The lake is as full as it has ever been so there will be no combing the beach for shells. The service was great, Bro. Don had a great message.

Take a look at some of the pictures from Day 1.

Jars - Day 5

June 22nd, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

Day 5 began with us finding out that the bus company did not plan on being here until 1 p.m.  4 hours later that what we contracted for, so as I type this we are sitting waiting on the bus.  It is now 2 p.m. and the bus driver has stopped answering his phone…

Keep your prayers going that we do indeed make it home today…

UPDATE:

Yes, we made it home…at 11:00 p.m…but we made it.  Thank you for all of your prayers and support during this week.  Now, if you wouldn’t mind…can you talk to God about the bus company?  You might ask Him to pay them a visit…:)

Jars - Day 4

June 21st, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

Day 4 of youth camp saw more of the same kind of weather.  After the storms last night, the sky was overcast and again, thankfully, it was not as hot as it could be.  And it didn’t rain during the day…

We had fun with a water ballon contest which involved using a large slingshot, water balloons and very good aim.  OLBC tied with Bible Baptist and we were forced into a dance off.  Praises to Clint and his posse for winning yet another one for us.

God used Bro. Joe to challenge us to be unlikely heros.  This last night of camp, God has given us all some things to think about.

Pictures from day 4 are here, Jars - Day 4.

Jars - Day 3

June 20th, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

Before the storms of the evening moved in on us, we had some fun.  In the morning there was the “Stupid Talent” show.  To kick the show off was our very own Tim and Oliver doing what they thought were impersonations of characters from King of the Hill.

In the afternoon we played in round 1 of the softball tournament.  We had good hits and our infield kept their gloves in the air even when a ball was not in play. (Look at the pictures).  One young man from Bible Baptist Church learned what it meant to face OLBC in softball.  He’s ok, but just between us, he’s milking his ‘injury’ for all the sympathy he can get (especially from the girls!).

In the evening service, Bro. Joe talked about All Stars.  Specifically the three children of God that were thrown into the firey furnace.  Due to the wind blowing in off the storm, Bro. Joe did not have any problem getting everyone to huddle up around the fire he built to represent the furnace.

We hope you enjoy the pictures here, Jars - Day 3.  More to follow!

Jars - Weather

June 20th, 2007 by oaklakebaptist | Comments Off | Filed in Youth

The weather so far this week at camp has been WET!  No doubt!  However, at no time has the weather threaten our safety or the safety of the campground.  Everyone has been safe and sound.  Unless you count the time that Tim almost got hit by a softball…

The storms that made national news Sunday night occured AFTER we arrived at camp.  The storms Wednesday night impacted us by making Bro. Joe close the service early.  After that we stayed in the tabernacle watching a movie instead of playing a volleyball tournament.

At no time has the weather threaten us with anything other than very heavy rain.  Your prayers for our safety are working.  We have had cool weather for camp which is unheard of and for which we all are very grateful.  It’s usually so hot here you can barely stand it.

Please continue to prayer for the campers and counselors and that God will continue His work here at camp.
