Ladies Meeting Date Change

There will be a change of date for our ladies meeting for the month of February. Because we will need to put our mission baskets together, we will have our meeting on January 30th at 7:00 p.m. There will also be a baby shower for Kristi Hughes in conjunction with the meeting as well. Kristi is registered at Target and will be a welcoming a new little boy into the world very soon! Please make a note: we will also be having a community meeting in the auditorium, so if you arrive after 7:00 p.m., please use the door to the youth department which is the door to the left of the auditorium. Thanks!

Facing the Giants

February 4th is the day that all football fans look forward to every year…it’s Superbowl Sunday!!! This year we will be doing something different on that Sunday that will entail a stadium food lunch (catered by the teens), a viewing of the movie “Facing the Giants”, a field goal kicking contest, and an early church service before the game begins. We will then show the Superbowl in its entirety here at Oak Lake, in the auditorium. The only cost will be for lunch and it should cost you no more than $5.00 per person! Invite your friends and neighbors to join us at Oak Lake next Sunday!

Missions 101

Missions 101 is designed to take us back to the basics. Why would we want to do that? For several reasons: first, we have a lot of new members who are not familiar with our missions program, second, even though we have promoted missions for years in our church using the Faith Promise Plan of missions giving, there are still some who have never participated. Last, for those who do participate, we want to reinforce the need and opportunity to be involved in missions. We have some wonderful mission couples and Bro. Henry and Sandy Powell to help us with our conference this year. Our conference begins on Wednesday evening, February the 7th, at 7:00 p.m. and goes through Sunday. A men’s breakfast takes place on Saturday morning and a ladies’ tea on Saturday the 10th. We will be going to Cottage Charm Tea Room in Katy. Please check the foyer for information on our luncheon.

Mission Baskets

We are planning to give each of our mission couples a basket with items that they can use on deputation. We are suggesting travel size items that can be used on the road. A list of suggested items is on the foyer table. We need these by this Tuesday evening if at all possible. Our missionaries do appreciate our willingness to help them. Thank you for your participation!

Ladies Bible Study

Ladies, our new session has begun but you may still join us! The name of the new study is “Lies Women Believe”, by Nancy Leigh DeMoss! This study will take place on Wednesday mornings at 9:45 a.m. See Karen Wyborny for more details.

New Sunday School Classes

Don’t forget that Oak Lake has 2 new classes to meet the needs of its people! Brenda Plummer has begun the “ETC” class for singles and Willie Cabrera has started a college ministry! If you are interested in any of these classes or know of someone who would be, be sure to check them out today during Sunday School!

Super Sunday – Facing the Giants - February 4th

Facing the Giants

Missons 101…Pray. Give. GO!

Our church will have its annual Mission’s Conference the 7th through the 11th of February! There is an article in another part of the bulletin about the baskets and gifts for the children. Please be sure to check that out and see where you can help!

The theme for our conference this year is “Missions 101…Pray. Give. GO”. Missions 101 is designed to take us back to the basics. Why would we want to do that? For several reasons-First, we have a lot of new members who are not familiar with our missions program. Second, even though we have promoted missions for years in our church using the Faith Promise Plan of missions giving, there are still some who have never participated. Last, for those who do participate, we want to reinforce the need and opportunity to be involved in missions. Basic missions is not complicated! Everyone can do it! It begins with a love and compassion for the lost!

Please make plans now to join us during the conference! We have Bro. Henry Powell who will be our guest speaker, and 3 other young families that are working to get to their field for the first time!

As the conference approaches, let’s pray and ask God what He would have us to learn about missions in 2007! We pray that God would give our church an even bigger passion to help see people all over the world come to Him! Join with us as we begin “Missions 101”, very soon!
